Cyprus Chocolates is the island's only bean-to-bar chocolate factory, with a boutique in the village of Pano Platres. It makes a lovely family outing: there are factory tours and workshops for children and adults alike. In an hour everyone makes their own chocolate bar, learns how a cacao bean becomes chocolate and tastes chocolate from different origins. The longer candy-making course, with tempering and fillings, is not recommended for children under twelve.

Cyprus Cupcakes in Limassol bakes cakes, cupcakes and mochi to order, a labour of love rather than a day job. The children and youth strand of the Cyprus Film Days festival: every year it shows young audiences films worth watching and then hands them a camera. Alongside the screenings there are creative film workshops for children and young people, and a short-film competition that teenagers enter with work of their own. The programme is put together by the strand's artistic director, Athena Xenidou, and the films are not only Cypriot: the section works with the Festival International du Film d'Éducation, which brings its own selection of shorts along with features honoured in its competition. For a parent the point is not a cultural outing but what the child walks out as — not an audience member but a participant, having watched, talked it over with the film-makers and tried shooting something themselves.
The Cyprus Freshwater Angling Association. Its Children's Fishing Day, named after Phivos Papachristoforou, is held at Athalassa Lake in Agios Georgios Park for children aged six to twelve; newcomers are lent a rod and the association provides barbless hooks. The Family Day gathers members and their families at the Xyliatos picnic site. Both are for members: a child is signed up and accompanied by the member who invites them.
