Fjord by Cristian Mungiu at Pantheon

About the event

Cristian Mungiu's Fjord took the Palme d'Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, his second, nineteen years after 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, and picked up four further awards including the FIPRESCI Prize. The Georgius, a devout Romanian Norwegian couple, settle in a remote village by the Norwegian fjords, where they grow close to the neighbours and the children of both households become friends despite very different upbringings. When the Georgius' teenage daughter turns up at school covered in bruises, the community begins to wonder whether they have anything to do with the strict discipline the children receive at home. Mungiu has described the film as a statement against every form of fundamentalism, and Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve lead the cast. The final screenings are at 8.30pm, with an extra 5.30pm showing on 28 October, and tickets cost €7 to €9.
