About the event
The Kuss Quartet, based in Berlin, first made its name with the German Music Council's First Prize and has since played Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall and Suntory Hall. For this return visit to Cyprus the four bring three cornerstones of the string quartet repertoire. Haydn's Op.77 No.1, one of his final quartets, is full of energy and invention, while Janáček's turbulent Kreutzer Sonata quartet takes its cue from the psychological drama of Tolstoy's novella. After the interval comes Schubert's last quartet, in G major, D887, a work of almost symphonic scale that asks a great deal of stamina and precision from all four players. The concert starts at 8.30pm.
