About the event
Imprint in Clay is an evening devoted to the archive of Valentinos Charalambous, one of Cyprus's most celebrated ceramists, and to the project now documenting and digitising it. Born in Famagusta in 1929 into a family of potters, he studied in London, spent decades heading the ceramics department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad and has lived in Limassol since coming home. His output runs from murals and sculpture to large wheel-thrown vessels. Three short talks make up the programme: Marina Schiza on the significance of his work, Andriana Nikolaidou on the gift of his archive to The Cyprus Institute, and Nikolas Bakirtzis on a digital archive that will open up the studio, his papers, photographs and memories. The talks last 70 minutes and are followed by a reception, starting at 7pm with free entry.
