Thessaloniki, 1943, under German occupation: two childless couples, Vangelis and Victoria and Mimis and Lela, are crammed into an old requisitioned café turned makeshift home, longing desperately for a child amid hunger and fear — until a hunted Jewish man who has escaped from Auschwitz arrives seeking refuge and turns everything upside down. Drama and comedy intertwine in a deeply human tale of solidarity, love and the unbreakable power of hope. At the Anemona Theatre it plays Fridays and Saturdays at 20:30 and Sundays at 19:00; tickets from €8 for concessions, €18 full price.10 Oct – 1 NovFri & Sat 20:30, Sun 19:00Nicosia, Anemona Theatre, Latsia€from €8

Running time is about 70 minutes. In Nicosia it plays in the garden of the Goethe-Institut, inside the UN buffer zone right next to the Ledra Palace itself; curtain up at 20:00 or 21:00 depending on the night. Eirini Andronikou's production first played at the Adios Horos Festival in Athens; two performers and a live musician hold the stage for 1 hour 10 minutes, and it's very much one for grown-ups.
