Thessaloniki, 1943, under German occupation: two childless couples, Vangelis and Victoria and Mimis and Lela, are crammed into an old requisitioned café turned makeshift home, longing desperately for a child amid hunger and fear — until a hunted Jewish man who has escaped from Auschwitz arrives seeking refuge and turns everything upside down. Drama and comedy intertwine in a deeply human tale of solidarity, love and the unbreakable power of hope. At the Anemona Theatre it plays Fridays and Saturdays at 20:30 and Sundays at 19:00; tickets from €8 for concessions, €18 full price.10 Oct – 1 NovFri & Sat 20:30, Sun 19:00Nicosia, Anemona Theatre, Latsia€from €8

Running time is about 70 minutes. In Nicosia it plays in the garden of the Goethe-Institut, inside the UN buffer zone right next to the Ledra Palace itself; curtain up at 20:00 or 21:00 depending on the night. Eirini Andronikou's production first played at the Adios Horos Festival in Athens; two performers and a live musician hold the stage for 1 hour 10 minutes, and it's very much one for grown-ups. For parentsA Monday to Die For: English Comedy in NicosiaA Monday to Die For is a brand-new English-language comedy from Cut the Drama Productions, and every penny from its four performances goes to the Blind School, for a new main hall, and to the Nicosia Red Cross, for wheelchairs. Ryan runs an office in the heart of London selling investments that are rather too good to be true, while he and his wife Laura have agreed that on Mondays the rules of marriage simply don't apply. Add a party-loving secretary called Kathy, her husband Sam and his peculiar habits, Freddy the most gullible multi-millionaire alive, and a parrot that rings for ambulances, and chaos is more or less guaranteed. Improbably, part of the plot is drawn from a true story. Written by Anthony T. Ashiotis and directed by Elmos Neocleous, it runs for 1 hour 40 minutes in English, starting at 20:00.
